out and about: moray's at the catamaran

Been going to the catamaran for staycations, holiday meals, and sneaky day dates for the better part of 4 decades. It has literally been our family’s happy place. For. Ever.

In this iteration of family life, it’s been one of our favorite, sneak away day date, happy hour, etc. 5 min away from home get-away.

While we love easter and mother’s day brunch, sunday brunches, summer luau’s, and bday dinners at oceana coastal… sneaking away to moray’s - the outdoor bar - is one of our favorite dates.

It’s moray’s, and more of a casual menu, but yet you can order from the full sushi menu at oceana. While sitting on the mission bay boardwalk, and people watching to your hearts content. Like seriously? Good food, beach and sun, and random people? What’s better than that?

french 75

original 40 juice maze: hazy ipa

Yes. The french 75 here is worth ordering.

And also. And one of our favorite local brewery’s is on tap. The hazy is excellent.

hamachi crudo: white miso, micro cilantro, jalapeno

Is a hamachi crudo every wrong? According to my daughter - no. Never. Also this one? With the miso and pickled mustard seed? This dish never disappoints. Ever.

original 40: westerly flow, west coast ipa

Jamie’s all time fav from our original 40 visits. Classic west coast ipa. Period. Hard stop.

oceana house roll: eel, tempura shrimp, crab, nori, avocado, unagi sauce

There is never a time at moray’s that we don’t order the house roll…. which is ridiculous in the sense that jamie is not an eel fan… but yet here? It’s his 100 percent jam.

Every. Single. Time.

decoy limited brut rose: california

So, ya’ll. Obsessed with the champs decoy (aka duckhorn) is putting out. So to have the chance to have their sparkling rose. Yes. Please. And thank you. Dry. Crisp. And pretty much screams, drink me while you you look out at the water.

sunrise scallops roll: scallops, tempura asparagus, gobo, avocado, ponzu pepper, habanero

Holy moly. One of the new (to us) rolls. And can we take a minute to appreciate that raw scallops are not jamie’s jam… however; he said he’d order this roll, again and again.

drugstore hamburger: chuck, short rib, & brisket blend, tomato, red onion, lettuce, dill pickle, mayo // fries

I’m sorry… but any place that nails the “basic” hamburger, and brings you back to the place of nostalgia and home grilled patties?!? Does it really matter what else they are doing?!?
