out and about: lunching at the fishery

topa topa: chief peak ipa

gin gimlet

Y’all know I get most of my fresh seafood from our local fishmonger at the fishery. Which is basically code for getting to sneak out and have lunch at one of our long term favorite spots. #winning

Recently they’ve added a new draft ipa to the beer menu that jamie is actually excited about. He’d never had it before, but now looks forward to it and gets excited if he sees it at other place.

This time, I was in a gimlet mood. Botanist. Fresh lime. Perfection.

mexican shrimp cocktail: cocktail sauce, louie dressing, lemon

Always a favorite, and a staple of the shellfish tower, is the shrimp cocktail. It’s so good - but as a self proclaimed horseradish obsession, I always have to ask for extra. Never too much horseradish. I love how the shrimp is never overcooked or rubbery… always the perfect cook and chill.

albacore tostada: tuna tartare, seared albacore, guacamole, radish, peanut salsa macha

This is a relatively new menu item… and I got to say, we are loving it. Yes, even me, who is not a fan of seared fish.

The juxtaposition here with the sliced seared albacore, and the tuna tartar mixed guac, is a game changer. So good.

poke: ahi, avocado, radish, scallions, nori, cucumber, sesame ponzu, wasabi mayo

Pro tip: ask for the poke “bowl” and it comes over rice. The poke has been a decade long favorite of the kiddos; and since the fishery stopped serving sushi rolls, the favorite go-to-order.

smoked albacore dip: mayer lemon aioli, gooseberries, pickled shallots, chervil, ritz crackers

Ya’ll know I have my own version of a smoked albacore dip, so when we saw this was a new menu item, we jumped at the chance to try it.

Mine is a lot more basic, and served cold.

This one is a hot starter, and all the accoutrements make it an instant hit. Plus, who doesn’t love ritz crackers?

fishery soup: market fish + mediterranean broth, fried chickpeas

If jamie isn’t ordering the fishery soup at our visits, then he’s prolly not with us. This is his favorite soup in all of san diego. He is incapable of not ordering it. Or sharing.
