out and about: himitsu
It’s no secret we love himitsu. Or that we followed chef mitsu from his tenure at sushi ota to opening his own shop. Not to mention it’s a hop, skip and a jump away from our house. Win-win.
So, it shouldn’t come as a surprise that we popped in last week after back to school night.
We made reservations for outdoors, as that was the only option- but were asked to sit at the bar, if we were so inclined. And yes, yes we were.
Love chatting at the sushi bar, and getting ideas for new and different fish/sushi preparations.
We started out with the jalapeño yellowtail and salmon. You can get each individually (which is what avy does, and then proceeds to eat all the yellowtail and share none of it with the resto of us). Or a combo of both.
As aforementioned avy always eats it all, so when it’s just jamie and i, we get both… and he tends to eat most of the yellowtail anyway. At this point, I should just order my own. But at least I get a taste. And there is nothing better than fresh fish, simply presented on ponzu with fresh sliced jalapeños.
We were talking to the chefs and I was asking about different rolls i’d seen on insta. They said we could request a special roll - never the same twice - and we jumped at the chance.
What resulted was the sushi roll of everyone’s dreams. It was so so good. There was so much care taken to create this roll, and the bite was so perfect. We vowed then and there to always get the special roll.
Like seriously guys, I can’t even start to explain how good this roll was. Especially since it was slightly torched.
We moved on to nigiri, which I was enjoying way too much to take pictures, but we had the thai snapper, the golden eye snapper and the chopped toro.
We ended our meal with some maki rolls. Spicy yellowtail and plain avocado roll. It’s kinda the best simple bites that just make the meal.
Well we thought we were done. But mitsu had seen it was our anniversary the week before and sent out a special anniversary dessert for us to share.
And oh em ghee. Are we glad he did. It was prolly the best panna cotta we’ve every had.
Literally can’t wait for our next visit.
