plumsauce

Talk about simple.

This is such an easy recipe, and so tasty too.

You’ve had applesauce, now let me introduce you to plumsauce. Here’s the back story. Don’t ask me why but when I was a teen, my mom used to purchase fruit flavored baby food jars and keep them in the fridge for snacks. Our favorite, by far, was the puréed plums. We would eat them by the pint.

Fast forward to when I had very young children and made all my baby food from scratch. Plumsauce was always a favorite for everyone. And, because I would make the baby food ahead of time, and freeze it in ice cube trays (fun baby food fact— ice cubes are the perfect 1oz serving portion), just popping out a cube when needed, I would also snack on frozen plumsauce and/or use it as ice cubes in wine, bubbles, or even water. I’m telling you, it’s super versatile.

Ingredients:

5 plums, pitted and quartered

1 pinch of salt

(you can add 1 Tbsp of honey, if you feel your plums aren’t sweet enough- but a) not if you’re making baby food and b) you really don’t need it)

Directions:

Bring a large pot of water to boil. Place plums in a steamer basket, over boiling water and cover. Steam for 10 minutes.

Add softened plums to food processor with pinch of salt. Purée until blended to desired consistency.

Refrigerate until cold, or pour into ice cube trays and freeze for later use.
