out and about: eddie v's

I always forget how much I love eddie v’s until i go back. Not only do they have the hubs favorite beer, but their french 75 is always chilled to perfection (which unfortunately does not always happen)…

Regardless, it’s the food that’s the draw. And, while I do love a good steak (and there are excellent steaks here); i love the happy hour and appetizer selection. Lots of bites to share.

bread and spiced butter

I feel like most places no longer do bread and butter when you sit down. Which is a shame. I’m not big on bread in regular life, but I absolutely adore bread and butter when I am sitting down to dinner somewhere. It’s probably the butter. Oh, and the fresh bread. Perhaps it’s the seasoned salt. Or all of the above.

small batch: boutique oysters hand selected and available for only a few short weeks

One of the things I love most about eddie v’s is that you can by singular oysters. Which is perfect when the hubs doesn’t want raw, and I do. I don’t have to commit to a 1/2 dozen.

I tried the two different special oysters of the day. I loved the blue point. I was not a huge fan of the small batch. Which considering I was trying two new (to me) oysters I didn’t know what to expect in the first place. So it was neither here nor there, but I will be ordering the blue point again in the future.

eddie’s rockefeller: broiled oysters with spinach, artichoke fondue, panko crumbs

Like I mentioned before, the hubs doesn’t always like raw oysters, and I’m not a big fan of cooked. Once again eddie v’s for the win. I can have raw, and he can have cooked. The best of both worlds.

yellowtail sashimi: cilantro, red chilis and ponzu

Bright, fresh, crisp and served on an ice cold plate, the sashimi plate is ridiculous. The ponzu is complimentary without being overpowering. This is a good thing, because it doesn’t mask the taste of the fish. And you want to be able to taste your raw fish to know it’s fresh.

ahi tuna tartare: avocado, mango, citrus, with light curry, sesame oil

If you like tuna tartare, you definitely need to try this tuna tartare. It’s light, bright, fresh, and screams spring. It’s not on the happy hour menu, but it’s totally worth ordering regardless.

black truffle tartare: hand-chopped filet mignon, grana padano with fresh baguettes

So there is a tartare you can order tableside at eddie v’s that is totally traditional. But we aren’t talking about totally traditional around here. We are talking about the tartare on the happy hour menu, that is a whole situation in and of itself. It’s topped with truffles. Yes! Truffles. (And you can totally bet I’ve been working on my own homemade spin on this one)…

prime steak tataki: wild mushrooms, green onions, red chilis

While I’m not a huge fan of fish tatake - I like my fish either all the way raw or all the way cooked - I am a huge fan of beef tatake. The gentle sear is the perfect way for the meat to stay tender in bite-sized morsels. And this dish is no exception. It’s a great way to sample a little bit of steak without having a giant piece of meat.

All this being said, to say, that you will find us back once again, either tableside or bar side, enjoying all eddie v’s has to offer.
