tuna melt, make it spicy
I love a good tuna melt. It’s one of my go to orders when dining out. I absolutely love it, when it’s smothered in cheddar cheese, and topped with fresh tomato and avocado.
But I really love it when I make it at home and top it off with some siracha and kewpie mayo. It elevates it to the next level.
I use my recipe for steve’s tuna salad as a base, but you can do you, and choose whatever tuna salad sparks your fancy. Or try mine. Totes your call.
Ingredients:
sliced sheepherder’s bread
kewpie mayo
tuna salad
sliced tomatoes
shredded cheddar cheese
sliced avocado
siracha
finishing salt
Directions:
To assemble, spread a layer of kewpie on the bread, top with tuna salad, sliced tomatoes, and shredded cheddar. After cooking, top with avocado, and drizzle more kewpie and siracha over the top. Sprinkle finishing salt and cut in half to serve.
To use an oven, preheat to 400 degrees. Bake for +/-10 minutes, until cheese is thoroughly melted and tuna is warm.
To use an air fryer, preheat to 360. Add sandwich, and cook for +/- 10 minutes, until cheese is thoroughly melted and tuna is warm.
Microwave hack. Toast the bread before assembling the sandwich. Then assemble as above. Microwave 1 1/2 minutes. Bread will stay crispy, while cheese gets melty, and tuna is cooked.
