cara cara salsa

It’s cara cara season! If you don’t know about this variety of orange, you are missing out. Big time. It’s got pinker flesh than a regular orange, and a sweet taste that is completely different from a regular orange. It’s been my kid’s favorite since they were little.

And the only thing I can think of that’s better than eating these oranges plain, is putting them in a salsa and eating them with all the things. They pair perfectly with habaneros and shallots, and are fantastic on beef, chicken, fish, avocados or with chips.

Ingredients:

3 cara cara oranges, peeled, supremed, and chopped

1 shallot, minced

handful of cilantro, rough chopped

1/2 - 1 habanero pepper depending on spice tolerance, seeded and minced

juice of 1/2 lime

1 tsp salt

1/2 tsp ground black pepper

Directions:

Combine all ingredients together in a glass or wooden bowl.
