texas sheet cake

The perfect potluck dessert, or easy family snack, what makes a texas sheet cake so perfect for any occasion is it’s simplicity. Despite it’s title, don’t be expecting a traditional cake like, texture. It’s less of a cake, and more like a layer of fudgy goodness, topped with a chocolatey frosting, there’s no better choice to curb your sweet tooth.

Ingredients:

2 cups sugar

2 cups cake flour

1/2 tsp salt

1 tsp baking soda

1 cup water

1 cup butter

4 Tbsp cocoa

1/2 cup sour cream

2 eggs, room temperature

1 tsp vanilla

frosting

1/2 cup butter

6 Tbsp 2% milk

4 Tbsp cocoa

3 1/2 cups powdered sugar

1 tsp vanilla

1 cup chocolate chips (or if you prefer, walnuts)

Directions:

Preheat oven to 375.

In a large bowl, whisk sugar, flower, salt and baking soda together until combined.

In a medium sauce pan, bring water, 4 Tbsp of butter and 4 Tbsp of cocoa to boil. Once boiling, remove from heat, and let slightly cool. Add mixture to dry ingredients, and whisk.

In a separate small bowl, whisk eggs and sour cream together. Add to large bowl, and combine all ingredients until smooth.

Pour into a jelly roll pan, that has been sprayed with cooking oil, or rubbed with butter.

Bake for 20 to 25 minutes. Do not overbake.

While cake is baking, prepare frosting.

In a saucepan, bring 2 Tbsp butter, milk, and 4 Tbsp cocoa to a boil. Remove from heat and cool slightly. Add powdered sugar and vanilla to mixture and combine until smooth.

Frost while cake is still warm.

Sprinkle chocolate chips over the top
